Meet Charleston Stage’s 2017-18 Acting Ensemble. These talented actors from the Charleston community are members of our core company ensemble. They’ll perform in leading roles throughout our 40th Season at the Historic Dock Street Theatre.

 

9to5 LaraLara Allred
Lara appeared in Charleston Stage's Hairspray (Velma Von Tussle), Young Frankenstein, Mary Poppins, Catch Me if You Can, 9 to 5, Sister Act, Legally Blonde, Cabaret, and Joseph. She performer in the Village Repertory Co.’s Xanadu (Kira), Marvelous Wonderettes (Cindy Lou), Winter Wonderettes (Cindy Lou), One Man Two Guvnors (Pauline), London Wall (Miss Hooper), Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (Hallie), Spamalot, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and Ring of Fire. Some of her other performances include Christine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Footlight), Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker (Footlight), Charity in Sweet Charity (Flowertown), Laura Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie (Threshold), Lily St. Regis in Annie (Charleston Music Hall), Princess Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress (D.C.'s Lazy Susan), and the original Angela Normellino in Perfectly Normel People (Footlight, Threshold, NY International Fringe Festival) for which she won a Theatre Charleston Award.

 


KyleBarnette NewKyle Barnette
Kyle has been a member of the Charleston Stage family dating back to Season 21 (1998 - 99) where as an intern he first appeared at the Dock Street as Victor Frankenstein in Frankenstein. After many years working at theatres around the country such as Memphis’ Playhouse on the Square, he returned to Charleston where he became the Founding Artistic Director of What If? Productions where he has directed productions that include The Cannibals, Amadeus, Hedwig & the Angry Inch, Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche and Evil Dead: The Musical. Charleston Stage credits include: The Monster (Young Frankenstein), Mr. Hart (9 to 5: The Musical), Versati (The Underpants), Ernst Ludwig (Cabaret), Richard Hannay (The 39 Steps), Nick (Shear Madness), Cpt. Hook (The Original Peter Pan) and Malvolio (Twelfth Night). Charleston Stage directing credits: Steel Magnolias, The Foreigner and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. By day Kyle is also the Executive Director of Charleston Horticultural Society.

 

SamilleBaslerSamille Basler
A native Georgian, Samille has called Charleston home since 1995. Samille has been with Charleston Stage since their 19th season when her first show was Glass Menagerie. Some of her favorite shows with Charleston Stage are All My Sons, Moon Over Buffalo, Ballyhoo, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Broadway Bound, Gershwin at Folly, Steel Magnolias, To Kill a Mockingbird, Helium, The Importance of Being Earnest, and The Foreigner. Samille has appeared with Footlight Players (favorites Lion In Winter, Quartet, and Suddenly Last Summer); with Midtown Acting Company (favorites Driving Miss Daisy, 4000 Miles, Collected Stories); with Village Rep at Woolfe Street Playhouse (favorites August Osage Co., Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Trip to Bountiful, The Lyons); with What If ? Productions in House of Yes and most recently with Threshold Company in Becky Shaw and Uncle Vanya. Samille is honored to have had so many opportunities with Charleston Stage and to be a part of the Ensemble. This season, Samille will be appearing as Miss Maudie Atkinson in To Kill a Mockingbird and as Gramms in Helium.

 
 

LettyClayLetty Clay
Letty was born and raised for the 1st half of life in Southern California, but has come to call beautiful Charleston, SC, home for the last 20+ years. She holds a BS Degree from Southern Wesleyan University and is currently working towards an MS from Charleston Southern University. She has previously appeared on stage in Charleston Stage’s The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein and Gershwin at Folly as part of the ensemble casts, as Viola Pearson/Cora in The Seat of Justice, as Mrs Corry in Mary Poppins, as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray, and as Viney in The Miracle Worker. Letty credits her introduction to the Charleston Theater community to the invite she received to be a part of the ensemble cast of the 2012 performance of Porgy and Bess, performed the first time ever at the Historic Dock Street Theater. Some of her hobbies and interests include traveling, watching movies, laughing, enjoying life and spending time with her beautiful and talented daughter, Zariah, extended family, close friends and her growing theater family. This season with Charleston Stage, Letty will be appearing as Calpurnia in To Kill a Mockingbird and as Ruth in Helium.

 

Marybeth HeadshotMarybeth Clark
Marybeth is Charleston Stage's Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education. Marybeth started acting, teaching, and directing for the Charleston Stage in Season 20 and joined the staff full-time in Season 22. She created and oversees Charleston Stage's Resident Acting Intern Program which has employed almost 90 young professional actors to date. She directs multiple shows each season, favorites include Young Frankenstein and Mary Poppins. She has appeared on stage in multiple shows including The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Moon Over Buffalo, A Christmas Carol and You Can't Take It With You. In addition to overseeing the TheatreSchool classes and TheatreWings High School Apprentice Program at Charleston Stage, she also creates the curriculum for Charleston Stage's in school residencies and is a popular presenter at teacher inservices and arts education conferences. Clark has a degree in theatre/performance from the University of South Florida and has worked as an actor in professional theatres throughout the Southeast. This season with Charleston Stage, Marybeth will be appearing as Queen Elizabeth in Shakespeare in Love.

 

Victor

Victor Clark
Victor is honored to be a member of Charleston Stage's Acting Ensemble! Other Charleston Stage credits include: Keller in The Miracle Worker, General Henry Waverly in White Christmas, Judge Waties Waring in The Seat of Justice, Old Man in A Christmas Story, Otto Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, Hank in Inga Binga, Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, Lloyd in Noises Off, 11 different characters in Greater Tuna, Jim in All My Sons and Paul in Born Yesterday. Other favorite roles while in Charleston include: Boolie in Driving Miss Daisy, Dr. Sanderson in Harvey and Bill in On Golden Pond. This season with Charleston Stage, Victor will be appearing as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird and as Sir Robert De Lesseps/Barman in Shakespeare in Love.

 


 

Rylee HeadshotRylee Coppel
Rylee is excited to be a member of the Charleston Stage Acting Ensemble! Rylee is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Dance.Laugh.Learn. A music, movement, and drama program for kids, aimed at sparking an early love for the arts. Rylee has performed regionally and internationally with such companies as; Sesame Street Live, Joey Casella Productions, Theatre Rehabilitation for Youth, Roxy Regional Theatre, RWS and Associates, and American Entertainment Productions. Charleston Stage credits include: Hairspray (Ensemble), White Christmas (Tessie/ Mrs. Snoringman), and Sister Act (Sister Mary Patrick). Additional performance credits include: Shout: The Mod Musical (Red Girl), They’re Playing Our Song (Sonia), Nunsense (Sr. Robert Anne). Rylee can be seen this season in Avenue Q but is currently enjoying her newest role of mommy to little sweetie, Vivian Elizabeth.

 

 

Beth HeadshotBeth Curley
Beth has performed all over the Charleston area, most recently appearing with Charleston Stage as Mother Superior in Sister Act. Other Charleston Stage credits include: White Christmas (Martha Watson), Mary Poppins (Mrs. Brill), The Seat of Justice (Mrs. Elizabeth Waring), Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Carol Strong), The Diary of Anne Frank (Mrs. Frank), Gershwin at Folly (Dorothy Heyward), Inga Binga (Betty) and Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (The Woman). Beth's acting credits with What If? Productions include: The Cannibals (Frankie), Cabaret (Fraulein Schneider), Baby With the Bathwater (Helen), Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche (Wren), Hearts Full of Blood (Allison), Little Shop of Horrors (Ronette) and Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Yitzhak). Beth most recently made her stage debut with PURE Theatre as Sharon Fischer in If I Forget. When not on stage, Beth is the Director of Marketing/Resident Graphic Designer for Charleston Stage. This season with Charleston Stage, Beth will be appearing as Mrs. Taybor/The Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol.

 

ChadHeadshotChad Estel
Chad has been acting around the Lowcountry since 2007 including the Flowertown Players, Black Fedora Comedy Mystery Theatre, Threshold Repertory Theatre, What If? Productions, and has been involved with Charleston Stage for the last 3 years and is very excited to be part of this year’s Acting Ensemble. Some of Chad’s favorite productions have been The Seat of Justice, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Odd Couple, Don’t Dress For Dinner, Noises Off, Dearly Departed, Moonlight and Magnolias, The 39 Steps and Amadeus. He would like to thank his wife Sharon and daughter Sacha for their support and love. This season with Charleston Stage, Chad will be appearing as Judge Taylor in To Kill A Mockingbird and Lambert/Wabash in Shakespeare in Love.

 

 

 

David HeadshotDavid Loar
This season with Charleston Stage, David will be appearing as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and Richard Burbage Shakespeare in Love. Most recently with Charleston Stage, David played Lord Leonard Aster in Peter and the Starcatcher and Prof. Van Helsing in Dracula. From 2001 to 2008, David was a member of the Blackfriars Resident Troupe of the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA, playing over 90 roles including Shylock, Prospero, Richard II, Cassius, Claudius, Lord Capulet, and Ebenezer Scrooge. He toured the US for six years with Shenandoah Shakespeare Express, the National Shakespeare Company, and Chamber Repertory Theatre of Boston. He studied acting at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, NY, and the National Shakespeare Conservatory. Other Charleston roles: Robert Figg, John W. Davis, Isaac Woodard attorney, and Rep. Garrett in The Seat of Justice and Gabe, Dinner With Friends, Charleston Stage; Sidney Bruhl, Deathrap, Footlight Players; Lyman Wyeth, Other Desert Cities, PURE Theatre; Kerry Max Cook, The Exonerated, Midtown Productions; Walter Barnes, Blood and Gifts, Woolfe Street Playhouse. David lives in James Island with his wife, Rev. Kristen Barner, and their two dogs, Monty and Viva.

 

DerekTPickensDerek T. Pickens
Derek, a former Charleston Stage Resident Actor, is thrilled to be part of his sixth season with Charleston Stage. He was most recently seen in Peter and the Starcatcher (Alf) last season. Charleston Stage credits include: Shear Madness (Eddie), Avenue Q (Princeton/Rod), The Producers (Franz), Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Agent COD) and The Foreigner (David). Other favorite shows include: Shrek the Musical (Lord Farquaad) at the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival, the national tour of Horrible Harry (Harry) and It's Like That Way for Everybody at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Derek received his MFA in Performing Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as a BA in Theatre Education from Greensboro College. Derek is the Drama Teacher at Charles Pinckney Elementary in Mount Pleasant. This season with Charleston Stage, Derek will be appearing as Skuttle in Disney's The Little Mermaid.

 

 

RyanPixlerRyan Pixler
Ryan is excited to be joining Charleston Stage for his sixth season! He is a graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in Theatre for Youth. Ryan was most recently seen on the Dock Street stage as Monsignor O’Hara in Sister Act, Grempkin/Fighting Prawn in Peter and the Starcatcher, and Male Authority Figure in Hairspray. Favorite credits include: Carmen Ghia in The Producers (Charleston Stage), Pinocchio in Shrek the Musical (Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival), Robertson Ay in Mary Poppins (Charleston Stage), Phil d'Armano in Lippa's Wild Party (Village Rep.), Mitch Maypole in Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens (What If?), DuBose Heyward in Gershwin at Folly (Charleston Stage) and Ed Carmichael in You Can't Take It With You (Charleston Stage). This season with Charleston Stage, Ryan will be appearing as Chef Louis in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol, and Lord Wessex in Shakespeare in Love.

 

 

BrianPorter NewBrian Porter
Brian has been with Charleston Stage for over 6 years and serves as the Director of Administration. Some of Brian’s favorite Charleston Stage acting credits include: Peter and the Starcatcher (Black Stache), Hairspray (Wilbur), Shear Madness (Tony Whitcomb), The Producers (Roger De Bris), Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Roger Strong), Gershwin at Folly (Uncle Angelo), Anything Goes (Elisha Whitley), Inga Binga (Lemoyne “Lem” Billings), A Christmas Carol (Ebenezer Scrooge, 2010), Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps (Clown, Man 2) and Cabaret (Emcee).  Brian has also appeared on stage with What If? Productions in Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens (Saucy Jack), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Hedwig), Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story (Richard Loeb) and Cabaret (Emcee). This season with Charleston Stage, Brian will be appearing as Mr. Wiggins/Ghost of Christmas Present in A Christmas Carol and as Philip Henslowe in Shakespeare in Love.

 

 

New AndreaAndrea Rausch
Andrea was born and raised in Southern California and is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Charleston Stage credits include: Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act, Female Authority Figure in Hairspray, Bird Woman in Mary Poppins, Shirley Markowitz in The Producers, Mrs. VanDann in The Diary of Anne Frank and Ensemble in The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein.  Andrea is also an educator in the Charleston area working with Storytree Theatre!  She is honored to be a part of the Charleston Stage Acting Ensemble and looks forward to her 4th season with Charleston Stage. Special thanks go out to her amazing husband Mark, her two wonderful sons Logan and David and to her very supportive parents!  She would also like to thank Charleston Stage for the opportunity! This season with Charleston Stage, Andrea will be appearing as Ursula in Disney's The Little Mermaid, as Lady Visitor/Mayor's Wife/Ensemble in A Christmas Carol, and as Viola's Nurse in Shakespeare in Love.

 

 

JesseJesse Siak
Jesse has been working for Charleston Stage for four years now, starting as a Resident Actor and now holds the position of Associate Director of Education. He is also a proud member of the Charleston Stage Acting Ensemble. Jesse holds a B.A. in Theatre Education from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. At Charleston Stage, Jesse wears many hats (like the entire staff). Whether he’s teaching classes in the TheatreSchool, heading the High School/Middle School Acting Programs, helping guide Resident Actors in their educational development, leading Charleston Stage’s in-school workshops, directing or acting, he stays very busy. Favorite Charleston Stage roles include: Phil Davis (White Christmas), Pablo (Sister Act), Corny Collins (Hairspray), Leo Bloom (The Producers), Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Young Frankenstein), Henry (Next to Normal), Benjamin Cohen (The Underpants), Joe (9 to 5: The Musical), Dr. Watson (Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure) and Jacob Marley/Topper/Fezziwig/Butcher (A Christmas Carol). This season with Charleston Stage, Jesse will be appearing as Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol and Will Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love.

 

Atam HeadshotAtam Woodruff
Atam is thrilled to announce that he will be joining Charleston Stage as a Company Ensemble member for their 40th season! Atam moved to Charleston last year and appeared in Charleston Stage's productions of Hairspray, Dracula, and Sister Act. Atam's favorite role to date has been his portrayal of Smee in Charleston Stage's production of Peter and the Starcatcher! Atam is also a kindergarten teacher at The Cooper School, and is very thankful for his fellow teachers enthusiastic support as well as the support from his friends, family and loved ones. This season with Charleston Stage, Atam will be appearing as Flotsam in Disney's The Little Mermaid, as Gentlemen Visitor/Billie Bones/Topper/Ensemble in A Christmas Carol, and as Ralph/Juliet's Nurse in Shakespeare in Love.
